JULY - The first full month of summer and we drink in the beauty of the season. The month of picnics and BBQs, lemonade and days at the beach or in the hammock, blooming roses and garden bounty. Both Canada and the US celebrate birthdays this month.
July is represented by the Larkspur / Delphinium. Larkspur is a genus of ranunculaceous delphinium plants with bright flowers and spurred calyx and symbolizes feelings of an open heart and ardent attachment. There are secret meanings to three colours including “Fickleness” (pink), “Joyful, Happy-Go-Lucky” (white) and “You Have Such A Sweet Disposition” (purple). The spur of the flower, which is reminiscent of parts of a lark, created this flower’s name.
"A world without tomatoes is like a string quartet without violins."

The ruby, birthstone for July, is among the most highly prized of gemstones. Large rubies are harder to find than large diamonds, emeralds and sapphires. As a result, rubies’ value increases with size more than any other gemstone. Greek legends told the story of a female stork, who repaid the kindness of Heraclea by bringing her a brilliant ruby – a ruby so bright that it illuminated Heraclea’s room at night.
"Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time."
