When I was little, I spent lots of time looking for four leaf clovers - I believed in their magic. Back then, I never found any.
I had one boyfriend throughout my school years. We dated from grade 8 until the end of university. On the day we broke up, a four leaf clover found me, I wasn't looking... this was a very good sign and a turning point in my life.
Having studied forestry for five years at university, I started my career as a forester. I worked in the woods as a summer student and through my career for 15 years. After a period of time, I got so I didn't want to go near the woods for my leisure time. My friends wanted to go camping for the weekends and the last place I wanted to be was heading back into the woods, fighting the flies and what not.
So, when it dawned on me that I wasn't enjoying myself in the forest anymore (a love of my life), I quit, I found another job, and that was that. For a couple of years, the only time I spent in nature was in my garden.
Then we adopted our first dog, Jessie ...I always grew up with cats ... but a dog must be walked. And so Jessie and I walked. We walked everywhere, once we got started... through the forest and down the river bed and through the farmers fields and I became so grateful and happy to be back out in nature again!! It was within days of walking Jessie, that I started finding clovers, or they found me. Just so amazing... once again, I saw this as a very good sign. I couldn't resist picking them and I took them home and pressed them.
When Jessie eventually passed away, it was a very hard time for me. After what seemed like an eternity of grieving, I took a few clovers and mounted them in glass to give as gifts to some special people in my life. I then decided to take a few finished clover items to market, hoping that they would help give me the courage I needed to follow a dream I had (SNL Creations). My life had turned again.
To this day, clovers continue to find me. I press them and make items with them which I give as gifts or eventually sell. Part of the proceeds of all clover sales go to our local humane society, and I am grateful to have this way of giving back.
